So if I spray starter fluid in the carb or pump the trottle several times I can get it to crank but then it just stalls right out. Not sure where to start the carb was just rebuilt. New distributor installed and the motor was out and put back in so I need advise on where to start looking

When you say crank, you mean start? Cranking is what the motor does when trying to start. It will start and run for a minute then die? And only when you spray fluid or pump throttle? Sound gas related to me.

Have you checked the fuel pump? First there will be a filter on the bottom (or top depending on model) of the fuel pump. Check that. Next, you can disconnect fuel line from pump where it meets carb and put that end in a jug. Crank motor and see if pump is pushing gas through to the jug. If you had the proper tools, you can actually test the psi output of the pump, but this is a easy way to see if you are at least getting gas from the pump. Sometimes, the fuel pump arm--which works off the cam movement--sticks if it sits for a while. Try pressing it in a few times by hand while pump if off motor. See what that does.

When you pump throttle, does gas squirt into carbs?

I have remove the line going to the carb and it does squirt streams of fuel while cranking and if I pump the trottle I can see it squirting fuel into the carb and yes it starts if I put fuel into the carb by pumping the trottle by hand or spraying starter fuel in the carb but it immediately shuts off update: I can keep it running by spraying starter fluid into the carb

Motor runs if starting fluid is sprayed or if gas is pump in by throttle. This says the carb rebuild job needs to be done again correctly

I was hoping no-one was going to say that I guess I'm taking the carb back apart and checking everything tonight
