I have a few question if anyone can help ? I have a 1986 mercruiser 3.7 170 closed coolant system. I bought the after market 3 wire conversion kit. I broke to of the tabs that are water pump/timing cover. I got a new one to put on. Do i need to buy the gasket for the two parts or can i use rtv ? other question is i had to move the pulley and the stator coil to get to the last bolt. Can i brake the magnets of the pulley or leave them on? also to i have to put the stator back it ? Now to remove this pulley i had to get a puller for it. How do i go about putting back on ? it says not to hit wit objects.

I would buy a gasket kit for the timing cover and pump housing. I have converted my 3.7 to the alternator. I took the magnets out if my Balancer, no need to put the stater back on either. To get the balancer back on I took the original bolt to a hardware store and got one longer and thread it on with the longer bolt with washers. I put one continuous hose from the raw water connection to the HX. I removed the voltage regulator also.

Personally I would use the gasket

I left mine on they were secure and didn't feel the need to remove them. The stator is no longer needed, you can leave it off, sell it on ebay.

Now to remove this pulley i had to get a puller for it. How do i go about putting back on ? it says not to hit wit objects.

With a harmonic balancer installer:
