1986 mercury 90hp inline 6 not running right sometimes

I have been working on my 86 hydro sport bass boat with 90 mercury tower of power. model number a124493 We it sat out of gas for probably a year. I just replaced all the fuel lines, cleaned the tank. well i took it out and it ran ok idled in gear fine and drove ok. When i got back to load it up it died and didnt want to start i finally got it started but everytime i put it in gear it would die. I loaded it by hand and got it back home changed the plugs everything ran great on the hose could tilt it up far before itstarted to leak gas out of the carbs. well i took it out fired it up and ran great but when i went to start it up later that day about an hour or 2 to go back to the ramp it died everytime i put it in gear.it would die. if i pumped the ball hard i finally got it to run and drove great until i went to load it and as soon as i tilted the engine up to load it died. i notice hear at the house it would leak gas/drip from all 3 carbs if i squeeze the primer ball very hard. i also put new water pump and rebuilt fuel pump around a year or two ago. if it was me i wouldnt worry so much but my 3 year old daughter will be on the boat with me most of the time and i just want to be reliable and safe

Sounds like dirt/gum/varnish in the fuel lines gummed up the carbs

thanks, but cant find the engine my serial number a124493. what kit do you recommend and i figure while im in there i might as well change the floats. do you know where i might be able to find an online manual just to make sure everything is in spec

Clean out the carbs and change your fuel filters. You probably have some crud build-up. Were you running ethanol fuel? I find the E10 fuels tend to leave white crusty deposits in engines when the fuel evaporates out of the carbs from sitting.

Thanks, I should be getting the parts in tomorrow. I ordered repair kits for $48x3, float bowls x3, mercury engine fuel line, and new filters. I never ran ethanol, I know the engine is from the 80's and we didnt have that junk gas we have today. i pulled the gas tank a few weeks ago and cleaned it because i installed a new bildge pump and tansducer under the tank. does anyone have a manuel for this engine
