Hello all,

Wondered if anyone in this forum has experienced difficulty in pressing in the "throttle only" button located at the base of the throttle stick on a 1986 Mercury Commander Controller? (In order to increase idle speed without the drive gear engaged).

It has gotten to the point where I have to use the palm of my hand to apply enough pressure to the button in order to press it in. I've referenced my Seloc manual with regards to this issue and have only been able to see how to take apart/assemble the controller - very complicated indeed with more than 50 pieces involved!

Has anyone been able to resolve this issue without a complete rebuilt of the controller? Any ideas as to what is happening here?

thx - any responses appreciated!

First I would like to say that in my years as a mechanic, that is the worst control box anyone ever built, before they were a year old there were kits out to repair the design problems and if you go to a merc dealer they will have service bulletons and should have parts to fix your box that is one of the most common problems with them.
