1986 omc no forward

Ok. Here we go again. Last night i was pulling my boys on tube. My boy fell off so i turned around to pick him up. I shut off of engine. When i started back up i was stuck in reverse. Even with the shifter in the nuetral position it atill would be in reverse. The shifter felt pretty loose. I dont know what i did. The lower shift cable is new and installed last year. Could it be the upper cable? If so how do i troubleshoot this sucker. Thanks

You're going to have to do some figuring out Stang. Disconnect the remote cable and try to shift the drive using the bracket. If it does shift the lower cable is OK. While its disconnected shift the remote...does it move freely? Is the remote totally worn out and not moving the cable like it should?

LOL. Sorry, I just had a picture in my head of you backing all the way to the dock. How hot are we talking? Does it overheat on muffs?
