Here we go...
So I recently purchased a 1986 Sylvan Offshore and it needs a few things done to it. I need to put a new floor in and while I'm at it I'm gonna reupholstered it while i have it all ripped apart. I'm gonna also put in a 170, (yes I know peoples feelings on this motor, but I feel I can make it run with no issues) tearing out the 120 that's in it. Finally she needs a new paint job. So I've come here to ask some of you guys who have done it before or have the know how.
I rebuilt the 170 and am wondering if I can swap out the 120 and put the 170 in without adding motor mounts. Will it fit the old bolt pattern. So anyone ever swapped a 120 with a 170 in this boat?
I am seeking help on the flooring. I was wondering what kind of wood do you suggest on the floor? I'm gonna rip it all up and was thinking of going with plum creek 5/8 if i can get it. I was told that wolmanized will eat away at the aluminum. SO thoughts? Also, do you guys use sealers? I'm putting vynl in and I'm worried that my sealant that i use will prevent the glue from bonding. I'm also curious about what kind of foam to use underneath.
Finally, I'm curious on what you guys think for paint? I'm figuring VIVID black for the bottom, they say it has a sludge in it that's water activated and protects the bottom of the boat. The sides though, I'll need input on the sides though. I'm going for a Red and Grey boat.
So any help on any of these things would greatly appreciated!
