1986 year 16' boat, OMC 3.0 Cobra...37mph max.

Hi! I have a 16' Peterborough open deck boat with a 3.0. My top speed with two guys is 37mph at close to 5000 rpm. I am using a 14 x 17" pitch prop. Is this the best prop for my boat? It doesn't seem very fast for 140 hp.<br /><br />With 5 people in the boat 31-32mph is top end at 4500 rpm.

You Might be able to pull a 19" prop,+ get a little more out of it.....

You can definitely move to a 19P prop. I run a 17' Searay with 3.0l merc and run a 19. I have absolutely no trouble planing with a full boat and tow tubes, etc..<br /><br />I believe your WOT should be rated at 4200-4600. If you are at 5000 a 19P should put you at about 4600 RPM and a 21P at 4200. Try each one and see what happens..
