What are the signs that a stater Bendix needs lubrication? Does anyone know the type of lubricant to use on the Starter Bendix? My Evinrude manual recommends 'General Electric Versilube'. Where would I buy this? Is there a more common substitute? Lastly, how often should the Bendix be lubricated?

I believe you can use 3 in 1 oil on it...I have used Remington Gun Oil with teflon in it and has worked fine...it wont gum up...

to oil it just a few drops on the splines is all then work the bendix up and down a few times

You could try any Evinrude dlr and ask for part # 337016. This number may have been superceded but he may be able to help you out.

A light oil is what you need, like sewing machine oil

Short of that, the 3 in 1 will work as mentioned, just a couple drops though
