The VRO fuel pump on my 1987 200 HP Evinrude has failed and I would like to replace it with a conventional pre-mix fuel pump. I have been pre-mixing for years, just never got around to replacing the pump. Does anyone know what fuel pump (part number?) will work on this engne? It would be nice if the replacement pump would fit the existing mounting bracket. A new VRO pump is over $400 and I would prefer spending less if I don't need the VRO capability.

The premix pump #5007422 is the best option available at this time. ishopmarine.com has the price to beat.

Thanks everyone. The pre-mix pump looks compatible with my mounting bracket. I'll give it a try.

It is. It is the same shape, design, function (except oil mixing) as the original.
It is an OMC part also, not aftermarket. 5007422.

Re: 1987 200HP Fuel Pump Replacement

I bought 5007422 pump kit and yesterday when I began to install it I ran into a problem. The pump output fitting has two choices to install on the pump; a 5/16" hose barb or a 1/2" fitting that uses two O-rings and is made for a 60 degree v-6 engine. My 1987 200 HP has a 3/8" hose fuel system that attaches through a simple hose barb. After a lot of difficulty I configured a TEMPORARY solution of attaching a 1/2" hose to the fitting that uses O-rings (without the O-rings) and stepping it down to 3/8" with a couple of brass fittings connected together to form an adapter. But this fix makes me shutter as it is looks like something out of a Dr. Suess book. Does anyone know if BRP makes a 3/8" hose barb fitting for this pump or what type of mating fitting I need to connect a 3/8" hose to the pump fitting with O-rings?
