1987 3.0 OMC Cobra no water separator

1987 3.0 OMC cobra, bowl fuel filter on fuel pump. Could I put a water separator filter on this setup? Would I put before the fuel pump or after? Anyone ever done this or have pictures of their setup? Would this mess up my fuel delivery to the Carb?

I have the same setup, same year without a water separator. I suppose you could add one, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Up to you.
