1987 35 hp mercury

my 1987 35 hp mercury is not charging the battery , is there anything that controls charging other than the rectifier and charging stator, thanks

I assume you've tested your rectifier and stator than? what RPM are you running to determine its not charging

i don't have a tach, i just rev motor up a little and check volts with a multi meter and voltage does not go up and i don't know if there are other parts that control charging

So what voltage are you reading at idle and when rev'ed a little??

I believe rpms have to hit around 3500 for you to register approx 13.6 volts. Which would indicate charging. Something along those lines

i don't remember the exact number , somewhere around 12.4 volts at idle
when i rev motor i get erratic reading , going from 12.4 to 7 then back to 12.4 then to 3 then back to 12.4 , meter just jumps around but never above the 12.4
