Changed the oil and started it up to fog the engine. While warming it up at about 1400 rpm it suddenly started running rough and was blowing blue smoke out the exhaust. Shut it down and pulled the plugs to fog the cylinders. All of the plugs were black and dry. Could valve seals suddenly leak oil into the cylinders? When I changed the oil I poured in 4.3 litres but it shows over full on the dipstick when the boat is level (how it sits in the water). To level the engine I have to put the trailer jack right down.
The oil level was always on full when I checked it in the water but i only drained about 3.7 litres of oil. Could too much oil cause it to run rough and smoke?
Any other ideas of what suddenly changed?
