1987 6hp top carb gasket leaks?

:mad:I have cleaned my carb and after putting it back together fuel rushes out between the aluminum carb body and the plastic top cover( there is a half circle cutout on the left side but the gasket goes around this and lines up with the plastic cover). I ordered a carb rebuild kit and replaced what looked like a fine top gasket with a new one and the same result. FUEL POORS OUT. I have tightened and retightened in a star sequence. Can I use some sort of sealer or indian head shellac or am I just doing something wrong.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

If you tightened it too tight you may have cracked the CHEAP plastic top.

If everything is good it should seal. I doubt sealer would last any length of time.

No the top is not cracked, I also do not think it is overtight.

If you go to your OMC dealer you'll find that the top plastic cover was replaced by another part# that was not as prone to warping. You need a replacement with the new superseded part.

Been there, done that.
