Please forgive my ignorance in regards to the following questions. This is my first boat and motor so here we go. I started the motor in large container of water and water is coming out of the pee hole, but not as well as the stream that is on my 90 hp. After I ran it for about 3-4 minutes, I noticed that the mid-section (or whatever the proper term is) of the motor was really warm. Is this normal? I am talking about the section in between the lower unit and the top or head. Thought maybe it wasn't pumping enough water and maybe it needs a new impeller. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks for your help.

The midsection warms up due to exhaust usually, since the typical exhaust routing in down into the midsection. If your pee is coming out, you know it's working. However if there is any uncertainty it wouldn't hurt, especially if unsure how long it's been since the last water pump rebuild, to put a few dollars towards the impeller kit....they are always way cheaper than a new power head! By the way there's no harm in questions! :)

Airman, I agree that because of my uncertainty, I will replace the impeller just for my own piece of mind. Rick.....that is some nice information. Thanks for sharing it. Jeff
