cairngorms, yes 50:1 mix ,any quality oil rated tm3 [that is the S.A.E rating ], walmart sell a good brand, and depending on how your gas tank is set up[in boat or carry on type ] I usually try to mix it up in a gallon jug or can and shake vigorously, then pour it into the tank and add gas to fill,or at the very least, add the oil to the tank and then add the gas on top to mix as best as possibly. These are just my suggestions ,and other people will add their idea's too.Hope this helps

Yup 50-1 Lots of people use Wally World oil and it's ok.But the better oils, better means lots more$$$.Is usually better cleaner burning and less carbon buildup.
The gas we burn now has ethanol in it.If it sets longger than a couple of weeks it can seperate and can cause damage to the powerhead.Gas/oil setting in a tank for long periods will seperate too. Stabil and some other companies make additives and other good stuff to put in the gas.Use these if it gonna set for a while.
And use a good water/fuel seperating filter with a sight bowl. Good luck oh yea fill out your profile so we know what part of the world and what were workin on.J

Good motors as long as you take care of them. It's like anything else.If you use and them just shut it off and let it set it's gonna mess up.
The worst thing for an outboard is not using it.
I had a pair of them and they were still running 22 years until I repowered.J

I have another question pertaining to fuel. Does it matter what grade of gasoline I use in my outboard? I've been thinking about using premium from now on with some good oil.
