any ideas, please.... I have 1987 85hp force, which starts fine from cold, but after running for sometime it is really difficult to re-start. Also the motor is reluctant at full throttle, but runs fine at about 4000 - 4500rpm. I am suspicious of dirty fuel lines as the boat and engine were stored for sometime before I purchased a few weeks ago, the sound proofing attached to engine cover is also disintegrating. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: 1987 85hp force

First remove the airbox on the front of the carbs and check in the carbs for any insulation.I had a customer who ignored my recomendation to remove the airbox and look inisde and it cost him a rebuild. If you find ANY insulation in the carbs you need to check the reeds behind the carbs.Yea remove the insulation and replace if you want but not necessary.
Do a compression/spark test. Then check the condition of the fuel pump diaphram.
Any older hoses will need to be replaced as Ethanol will destroy them. The squeezie and any soft lines will need to be replaced. They may look good on the outside but melting on the inside.Keep us posted.J

Re: 1987 85hp force

Replace the fuel pump diaphram and all three check valves as they will fail with the ethynol fuel we use today. The new material is made to work with the ethynol fuel.

Go to the maintenance FAQ and look up how to decarb and engine. Do it a couple of times to yours and report back.
