This is my first post here, and I will apologize in advance if this a frequently covered topic. I did try the search button with no luck.

I just recently picked up what I believe is a 1987 Evinrude 55hp commercial. The model number on the motor is cj55rslp. My question is is there a way to convert this from the manual pull start to electric start? If so is it quite the hassle or is there a kit out there?

Ive spent quite a bit of time on google trying to figure this out with no luck. Again I apologize if this is a no brainer question and is easily answered!

Thank you in advance!!

If there is a ring gear you just bolt on a starter motor.----Add a solenoid and some wiring.-----Starter off 40 / 45 / 50 hp from many years will fit.

It does have a ring gear. How would I go about figuring out what starter from other models would fit? And what solenoid?

Sorry for all the questions...I've never converted an outboard to electric start before.

Your motor was made for many years as a 40 / 48 / 50 / 60 HP----So look it up for those models from say 1980 to about 2000 model years.-----Find starter part # and solenoid part #.---And see what years they fit.----Very common starter to find.
