Well, got my fuel pump installed and now have a fuel leak from somewhere. I have taken the carbs off, fuel pump off again, traced the fuel lines, etc. I can’t figure out where the devil the leak is. I can pump the bubble up and it gets stiff but then looses pressure. The motor will run just for a short bit then die. It’s like pulling teeth to get it to start again. That’s when I found out it’s loosing pressure somewhere. I had my son pump it so I could try to find the leak then fuel just starts pouring out from some unknown place. It was running down the outside of the lower unit. I thought it was leaking behind the top carb but nope. Any ideas of where else to find the leak?

thanks!!

I just read that fuel shouldn’t be in the pulse line. Almost positive fuel came out of the pulse line.

I ordered it online. The pump isn’t leaking anywhere. I’m debating getting one of the non-vro pumps and plugging the pulse line. Not sure that’s the fix or not but I don’t know what else to try. With everything removed from the front of the engine, I still can’t see the leak. It’s not the carbs, float solenoid, fuel pump, fuel lines from pump to carbs, etc.

Where is the red lever on the electric primer valve ?----Is it in line with the valve body ?-----When did this motor develop this problem ?----When did it run OK for you ?-----Why did you replace the pump ?

The red lever is inline with the solenoid. It’s been running rough because the old fuel pump leaked horribly. That’s why I replaced the pump. It hasn’t ran well for a while due to the leaking pump sucking in air.

I would do a compression test on this motor before spending too much more effort.----You may or may not know the history of broken piston rings on this motor.

No-----I am suggesting you do some inspection of this motor !---I did not say that compression has anything to do with any fuel leaks.----You can do yourself a favour by answering questions in post #9

No reason to get worked up. I am going thru this engine piece by piece trying to find this leak. I am replacing everything from the bulb to the carbs. By the way I did answer #9 the best I can:”The red lever is inline with the solenoid. It’s been running rough because the old fuel pump leaked horribly. That’s why I replaced the pump. It hasn’t ran well for a while due to the leaking pump sucking in air.” I’m looking for advice from anyone that may have had this problem or knows where else the fuel could be leaking. I’m even thinking about getting a non-vro pump in case this one is shot from the get go.

Oh well.-----I have about 15 or more of these motors for parts / rebuild.----Plus many new parts.----I know what goes wrong with them.-----Good luck with your efforts.
