1987 force 125 hp trim motor

having this problem with my trim motor,trim will tilt up but not down,when i hit the down button on the throttle handle nothing happens but there is clicking at the relay,tried changing the relay plug but no change,new relay and same,put my second motor on but the same thing happens,can someone help me with this,thanks for any advice you can give me

hot wire the motor directly to a 12v battery. if problem persists then it is a bad motor.

Sometimes it's the opposite relay that's bad. The one that clicks is sometimes the good one.

I don't think 1987 had relays. 1987 should have shipped with 3w motor and direct wiring. The 3w motor has easy to get at mounting bolt. 2w trim motors have hard to reach mounting bolts that only turn 1/6 at a time. You need to verify which system you have. If it is definitely 2w then throw a pair of new relays at it just because new relays are ridiculously cheap (under $3 each on Ebay & Amazon). If It is 3w then you need to verify that system works without switch.
