Im sorry if this is an obvious question to most but...I have a 1987 Bayliner Capri with a Force 125 outboard. Looking at the boat from the rear with the motor in the center. Mounted to the right iof the motor is a cylinder that is black in color and about 10 inches long. First of all Im clueless as to what it is (I guessed fuel pump) and second it appears to have a small crack in the very top. I am experiencing a small amount of either gas or oil or similar in the water and I was curious if it could be coming from the mystery cylinder crack.

Thanks in advance.

That should be your tilt motor, what makes your engine pivot up and down. You should see a black harness coming out the front on the top. It could have a leak, do to the crack. But, in regards to the oil sheen it's probably from your exhaust being a 2 stroke and some extra unused oil. Mine does.

I looked up a few pictures bbn of tilt motors, Thats it. So if Im not noticing any issues with the tilt then the crack is not critical? It has a knob that turns on the side, purpose?

Keep the knob tight! that is the port to fill with oil so it works
Seal the crack! that part is where the electrical motor(parts) are

The oil is 30w motor oil for the T@T
Fill the crack so water doesn't get in.
