I bought a 1987 Bayliner Cobra last year with a Force 125. From the beginning I had some idling issues. I adjusted idle speed, followed the manual and checked the timing, resynced and cleaned the carbs. I adjusted them by the book. I also added a water/fuel filter to the line. I also replaced the fuel line and primer bulb from the tank to the engine. By the end of the summer, it was running great. I'm a big guy (230 lbs) and it would pull me out on skis quite easily. With a couple people it would scream across the lake showing 5000 rpm and 40 mph. Winterized and put away of the winter.

Took it out for the first time and it seemed to run fine. Seemed a little sluggish to get to full power and the rpms never went above 4500. I changed the plugs and the inline fuel filter. Still pulled the lightweight skiers out fine, but for me (and I weigh the same as last year), it could hardly get me up. It took forever and every muscle I had to get up. Once up, it pulled me fine, but getting up was much more of a struggle. It seemed like the engine couldn't get enough power to ramp up to full speed. My wife (the driver) said it seemed bogged down getting up to speed.

Was thinking about taking it in to have the carbs serviced. I decided to check the compression before I took it in, so there weren't any super expensive surprises. The top cylinder was 125, the next one was 121, the third was 125, and the fourth was 128. Those all seem to be within specs.

I'm thinking about rebuilding the fuel pump and possible the carbs but not exactly sure which kit to buy. One user complained that the kit didn't actually contain the diaphragms needed for the rebuild.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nate
