Hi I am new to this board, there is alot of great information here which I have read but did not find the exact situation I am experiencing.

I just purchased a used Glastron with a 1987 Force 125 engine, I think this boat has been sitting for awhile as It was very hard to get started. Once started I could not keep it running at idle. I have emptyed the gas tank and added new fuel and fuel additive just to be safe. Now it seems to idle OK at least in the drive way with no load.

The motor runs good, once I got it started however when I am turning the engine over it really bogs down just before it fires. Almost as if the battery is dead. Is this normal? or do I have timing or starter problems?
Any help would be appriceated.

Dano2 - If it has been sitting awhile clean the carbs well. It will save you the hassle down the road. If you can pull them off and soak them that might be the best. If not, get some carb cleaner and spray it in the carbs.
Also, I would check to make sure the diaghram on your fuel pump is still in tact. My 93' 120 sat for awhile and the diaphram rotted.
Last, make sure the fuel filter is clean. Good luck.

Clean terminals and wires at battery. Recharge battery and have ample water. You need carb cleaner in fuel tank. Now for the next little while spray premixed fuel into the carbs to start the engine and save the starting system until you or the motor doesnt need it anymore.

Thanks for your responses ewalt2 & sony2001.

I have cleaned the carbs and added a carb/fuel injector cleaner to the mix as well as 93 octane gas and at least without a load it seems to run much better than the initial test run where I experenced rough idle and stalls.

I will check the connections at the starter, I have replaced the battery and cleaned or put new connections at that point. However the engine turns over just fine, except when it starts to fire then it drags alot, just dosen't seem normal.
Thanks

Clean connections , grease bendix, then think of checking, the brushes on the starter. If good, clean the armature surface?

"engine turns over just fine, except when it starts to fire then it drags alot".
This condition can Occur when the Ignition Timing is Advanced Too Far. You might check the timing.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I checked the connections at the starter and cleaned still seemed like timming issues, not..

I remembered when I replaced the battery that the connections from the starter to the battery were ring terminals (looked factory). I cut them off and hooked the wiring to brass battery terminals and connected the starter wires directly to the battery posts.
Now it starts quite easily.

Now if my prop ever gets here I am going fishing!
