I just became the proud new owner of a1986 14.5 ft. Bayliner capri with a 1987 force 50 with no spark on the lower cylinder. After hours of reading the forums on this page, I will soon be swapping the coils to begin tracking the problem. I just wanted to say thanks for everyone sharing their knowledge, and I will update you so we can get her back in the water!

Also keep finding mixed results, I havn't pulled the flywheel yet. Does this particular motor have points and condenser?

From the serial number it looks like you probably do not have points and condenser. If you have the kind of square coils, then no points. The motors with the tubular old school looking automotive type coils, then it uses points.

Yep, okay so I switched the coils. The same one is still not sparking. So I guess I should start by replacing that huh?

Just double check to make sure the problem follows the coil. From what you're saying, it sounds like the problem does follow the coil.

Give these folks a call. The part number you show is the first one on the list. The prices are dealer prices. Call them and the most it'll cost you is probably around $100. Sometimes I've been able to get them to sell at dealer prices though. Never hurts to try. Click on the part number and it'll show you a picture of the item so you can verify that it matches yours.

I marked them (top & bottom),
Removed them, and reinstalled them (correctly) with the bottom coil now on the top.
Previously the bottom coil was not firing, and after switching them, the same coil is still dead. Now the bottom sparks.

Alright, ordered the coil. Brand new $73.** from your link. Thanks again.
I'll post the results after installing the new one.
