recently bought a small fishing boat with a force 50hp model number 507f7c after some research I found out its a 87 model motor . here my problem . the motor last ran 5 months ago then sit all winter. the gas was drained but he did tell me he did not use any stabil or anything . he also drained the lower unit oil which I haven't put back in yet . the motor turns over good but wont start . I wouldn't imagine the coil packs goin bad in 5 months both of them . they are 300 for each one . my question is would the lower unit oil being drained have anything to do with it not starting .. maybe some sort of safety feature ?

Lower unit being drained of oil has nothing to do with the engine not starting. You need to determine if the failure to start is due to no gas getting into the cylinders or no spark at the spark plugs or maybe both. Make sure the Kill Switch is in the correct position or the safety lanyard is installed. If the switch or lanyard is not in the correct position, you won't get any spark to the plugs. You can remove each spark plug and pour about a tablespoon of 2-stoke gas/oil mixture into the cylinders. Re-install the plugs and see if it fires. Don't use starting fluid or straight gas as there is no oil and you run the risk of scoring the cylinder walls.

Forgot to mention, you should also do a compression check. If you have low or no compression, then you need to do some mechanical engine repair.

In addition to PNW's recommendations, now is the time to fill in the lower unit even before starting the engine. The worst thing that could happen is the engine starts and forget that there is still no oil in the LU.
