1987 Force 85hp starts and idles good but won't rev up

New to me Bayliner Capri with an 856X7A engine starts up and idles smooth.

When throttle is advanced, it will shift and gain about 500 rpm (either fwd or reverse) but not more. It does not "bog down" it simply won't rev up. What's the first thing to check? Throttle linkage? Carbs? Fuel Diaphram?

Appreciate suggestions.

Check out Frank's link and sync video or sticky at the front of the force forum, could be a few things. Make sure at WOT your butterflies are opening to horizontal at WOT.

The threaded plastic piece where the timing linkage rod connects under the flywheel is cracked. :facepalm: After I replace that will run through the link and sync. Thanks.
