2 questions actually.

I was going through Frank's carb sync process today. i unclipped the the turnbuckle, that is connected to the cam and checked the alignment. The eccentric screw as just touching the cam when the marking was on tangent. All seemed well so far. I did notice that when I advance the remote to WOT, the cam does not push the carb screw to the stop. It will actually go another 3/8 of an inch or so. This would give me that much more power, correct???? Can I adjust that little turnbuckle so that the cam pushes the carb to its most open position. Currently the most I get with a light load is around 4300 rpms WOT. I would like to get a few more rpms as it seems a little underpowered for getting adult skiiers up.

2nd question. What prop pitch would be best for skiing behind this motor. It is on a 19 ft. bayliner cobra. It has a Stainless Steel prop which is marked 13 X 15. This doesn't seem to be the standard prop marking, but that's all it says. I would think that a 15 pitch prop should give me plenty of thrust, but is actually seems a little weak. It does have a top speed of 40 mph at 4300 WOT.

I'm fairly green to this boat ownership fun, so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nate

NO, incorrect. The tower has a stop that touches the block to limit carb opening. there is no real stop on the carb. Open too far and the butterfly starts to close again. THUS: You look into the carb(s) and set the butterflies to level with the tower stop against the block (WOT)

Ok,

Thanks. That's why I decided I better ask before I just do something. I will look into the carbs tomorrow and check the butterflies. Wasn't in too big of a hurry since my carb rebuild kits haven't arrived yet.

15 pitch is the correct ski prop. My dad has same boat. You should be turning around 5000-5500 with that prop.

Do a compression and spark test.
Check the tach make sure it's reading right.

I did compression test. 125, 122, 120, 128. What's the proper way to check spark.

You remove the plug boot and hold it in one hand while cranking the engine with the ignition on! NAH! Pull the plugs and ground them or put them in a spark tester. Then crank the engine with the ignition on and look for a big bright blue spark on each cylinder.

I just bought an inline spark tester. They all have great spark.

I did run into trouble though. I pulled the carbs to clean. I got a gasket kit, it didn't come with needle and seat. On the bottom carb, the little green o-ring in the seat is crumbled into junk.

I have called and emailed all the boat part places i can find and no one carries or can get a tap in seat or the o-ring. They all say unavailable, they can get screw in seat, but that isn't any help.

My NAPA store ordered a kit for a 90HP, which shows the o-ring but the part number doesn't say it will work on a 125HP.

Any advice on where in the heck to get this part would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Nate
