1987 ford 2.3 dead short

Hello This is my first post so please bear with me, I have a 1987 Bayliner carpi with a
2.3 ford and I have a dead short I'm chasing. I have worked my way down to this,
If I undo the top screw of the alternator mount and lay the alternator over, the electric system works, lights on the dash come on and starter turns. But if i reinstall the bracket screw the 50 amp inline fuse pops. I.m lost any help would be great

Your alternator is shorted. Repair or replace it.

I just replace it last Aug ? I'll have it tested Thanks
