Motor starts and idles ok. Some days it runs fine, othe days it will act up. I run it at 3800-4000 RPM on my 230 SEA OX. By acting up it will be running at cruse speed and then loose all power. I then need to return to idle for a few seconds until idle is smooth then we are good to go again. Some days it runs fine all day. Last trip out it ran fine out 7 miles but acted up 2 times on the way back. I changed fuel filters and plugs. One thing that is the same is when it is acting up idle is rough.
TJ

TJ....your engine is equipped with two power packs. Each pack has a ground...a black wire that is fastened to the block. Check these and make sure they are tight.

Does it make any difference if your on smooth water or rough water? You may have some junk floating around in the bowls and periodically plugging up the jets. Check your fuel filter and maybe have a look inside the bowls. Do ya' know the last time the carbs were cleaned and overhauled?

I don't know why! maybe just a fluke, but I have had a run of primer bulb's with faulty check valve's. That will give you the symtom you discribe.

my 1987 200 Johnson was doing the exact thing as yours last fall. I found the inside of the wires had corroded on the starboard pack. I had replaced the port pack about 2 years eariler. The motor has not missed a beat since I bought the pack. I bought an CDI pack. If yours packs now are originals, their time is about up. Good luck.
