After disassembling the lower unit, I found a few chipped teeth on the forward gear and rounding of the clutch dog. I'm going to order the forward/rear/pinion/clutch dog kit, the seal kit, a shim kit, and I threw in a water intake screen because I melted a small hole while heating the bullet to pull the prop shaft bearing carrier.

Is there anything anyone can point out in case I missed something.

It will be cheaper to replace it with a SIE replacement unit than to buy parts...plus 3 year warranty.

Thanks, but with all due respect, I'm about $350 in with what I listed above. The new gear set is aftermarket, so it's not as expensive as Sierra or OMC. I considered swapping for a rebuilt, but I really want to know how to rebuild it myself. That and I really can't just drop $800-1000 when I can do it myself for much less money and gain much more knowledge. Any suggestions on the parts list. Bearings look good throughout.

You will have to find a dealer who can set the pinon for you there is a special tool for that.

I did order the spline nut so I can torque down the pinion nut. Are you referring the shimming tool?
