Hello all - picking up a 1987 Larson DC 190 openbow (180HP Merc) tomorrow. It was looked over and passed. However, if anyone can offer any potential gotcha's and/or suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Is it a 4 cyl or a V6?

In a 22 year old fiberglass boat the potential "gotcha" is always going to be wood rot. Rot in the transom, deck or stringers is a major project to repair on a glass boat. And it does always seem that if there's rot in one of those place the other 2 aren't far behind. Don't let anyone tell you that a small soft spot on the deck is no big deal.

I am pretty sure the "rot check" was done (99%), but if I were to do it myself, where in those spots would I look?

I think I made out great. We must have looked at over 20 boats, and it just kept coming back to this one. Even there were two others that were comparable, this Larson was just like an itch that you can't get rid of.

Paid $6500 for it. Included Shorlander trailer (2 sets of rollers) with a power winch. V6 mercruiser, full gauge, VHF radio (old school!), all cushions were showroom shape, as well as carpeting. There was no scratches, scruffs, scraptes, paint-spots (cover ups), etc.

The only issue was the radio didn't work (which I knew and didn't care - it was cassette anyway!) and the fin had a few "clips" out of it. But the boat reviewer and my cost guard buddy said that wasn't a big of an issue.

Was I robbed? (Price wise)

Sounds like you got a nice boat. Do I think you were robbed? Nah. I think the price was definitely high but if you looked at 20 boats and none were in as good of shape and the price was within your budget I don't think you need to lose any sleep. Enjoy it!

Congrates yeah my 1989 larson 20' all american dc radio didnt work either just bought a new one looking to put in next week. I paid 2500 for mine but had to put 1,000 bucks in it for a full tune up and new steering cables. Boats interior was perfect as well. But I had a small crack on the back left of my boat nothing that marine tex cant fix lol. I think you paid a little high for the boat but if your happy and its in good shape you have to judge that compared to outher boats you looked at around that price range. Here are some pics of mine post more of yous too interior ect. Has the boat been on the water yet?

Re: 1987 Larson DC I190 - any gotcha's?

We have been out once - it has been nothing but rain rain rain (that figures!). I will post some more pics as soon as it stops raining and I can take off the canvas top.

I thought I was on the high end (and if anyone thinks I was robbed - feel free to state it. I have thick skin and I asked for it!), but what is shocking (at least in this area of Wisconsin - Lake Winnebago) was how fast used boats were flying out the door (both private & at the stores) and how much they were asking AND getting.

ex: I would see a good boat on craigslist- if I didn't respond with 15 minutes, I was already 2 or 3 on the waiting list for it.

Now I just need to unload my 1971 Steury!
