Hey guys,

I'm super green. My understanding of changing the mechanical fuel pump fuel filter is as follows:

Clamp all fuel lines & unscrew cup, swap out filters. Screw cup back on, unclamp lines.

I just don't want gas spilling everywhere. I've had my hands on fire and I'm ok avoiding it again.

Let me know how stupid my understanding is!
Thanks!

Use shop rags to soak up any spilt fuel. Have a container under the pump to catch any over run. The above is how I've always done it, and I have never accidently set fire to my hands.... :)

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... No reason to clamp any fuel lines as the fuel pump is 2 check-valves, 'n a diaphragm,...

Just use rags, 'n a catchcan,.... shouldn't be but maybe an ounce or less of gas spilt,...

When I did mine, I cut the top of a milk jug off ( cap end) and shoved it under the entire fuel pump, worked like a champ. If I recall, not alot of fuel, but a little more than I wanted to manage with rags alone. good luck and welcome to the adventure of a

Boat (n) noun - a hole in the water surrounded by wood fiberglass steel cement etc. into which one pours money labour and time. Also a hell of a lot of fun when not doing the previously listed activities

You know changing that filter can be a real pain especially if the filter is underneath the pump! What I would do is get a new fuel pump gasket then just unhook the fuel lines, take the pump off and change the filter on the bench, then just bolt her back in.
