An inexperienced boat owner buddy has "commisioned" me for my slightly better knowledge and superior repair capacity...
First thing is his PT&T is inoperative so I went and pulled the pins and removed the unit for use as manual tilt until we get the unit rebuilt.
He had a business card with the following identification...
Mercury 1987
60 hp
model#? 09826796 (he was told this is a belgian built motor so no letter prefix?)
Serial#? 9826796
I told him since he won't be paying shop time, I should also do t-stat and impeller swap...
I need to verify we are on the right track and motor before ordering parts... I will also likely need to pick the brains of the more experienced on the PT&T rebuild... Never done one but have electric motor knowledge as well as hydraulic pumps etc... should be easy enuff unless there is some weird witch doctor spell I would need to do the work...
I personally haven't been under the shroud yet...
