i have a 1987 mercruiser ski that i have upgraded the ignition from points to electronic. the old coil was external regulated through a resister wire. the new coil i bought is internal regulated. my question is if i follow the manual on replacing the resister wire that feeds the coil from the exciter wire on the altenator and use a regular wire instead of a resisted one will the exciter feed 12 volts or will it be what the altenator is putting out. i really don't want to burn up a $100 coil because of my ignorance. sorry for long post, thanks for your help.

so the 14 volt output is only fed through the orange wire back to the battery, and the purple exciter wire is a regulated 12 volts. i know i may seem dumb but this is my first boat and my first time changing up wiring. just thought it would be better to ask and know for sure before i did something wrong
