1987 Mercuiser 165 4 cylinder electronic ignition

Once I install the Pertronix 91146A with the Flame thrower 2 45111 epoxy I then have to splice the red wire from the ignitor into the purple wire at the choke? That is the only thing I need to do wiring wise? anyone help me on this?

Yes. Just make sure it's the 12v switched lead. You also have a purple resistance wire going to your current coil that will be 9v or so.

Only 9v if there is a load. If no load (ie, measuring the voltage at the end of the wire with nothing else attached), it will show as 12v. ;)

Measuring it at the end of the wire while still attached to the coil will be 9v 😁

No, it won't.

It can ONLY 9v if there is current flowing. Points open, no current flowing. Therefore 12v all the way up the line. At every point from to open contact on the points all the way back to the battery positive post..

I need to stop replying at bedtime. Ok, ground the wire and measure. THEN you'd get some current through the resistor...
