I started this motor over the weekend and noticed some oil leaking. Popped the cowls off and noticed that the oil resevoir under the hood had a cracked oil cap. What does this res. do? Is a new cap hard to find? I noticed it had some wires running to it. If I find a new one, would it be hard to replace? I shut it down and took the boat back home. :(

Necman, the resevoir is an oil tank for your oil injection system. The wires are for the sensor that tells you that the oil in the tank is low. An alarm will sound when the tank reaches below 1/4 full. Find a Merc dealer in your area and they should be able to fix you up. Did you just purchase this boat? By not knowing what the resevoir is for I would guess you know very little about this motor and should obtain an owners manual for the motor and sit down and read it carefully before you put it in the water. ;)

Taz

I have always had Johnson motors and they did not have this oil res. on top the motor. The cap seemed to have cracked on me. I have replaced lower units and all in the past, just never have seen this part. Thanks for your reply. :) :)
