i have been having this firing problem with this motor for a while. i have raplaced the stator twice, the rectifier also, this weekend the motor ran maybe 10 sec. and shut down. now my oil alarm will not quit, i disconnected the alarm on the motor thinking this was the problem, and i still didn't have fire going to any of the plugs. i have tested the trigger it is ok by the meter. i have also replaced both switch boxes. anyone with any ideas or anyone that has had this problem, any information will be greatly appreciated thanks

G'day MJW. What cylinders do you have spark on. If yo have no spark on one cylinder it is probebly coil or switchbox. If you have no spark on 2 Cyls then Trigger. If you have no spark on 3 cyls then stator or switchbox. The buzzer is sounding because you have no spark on the cylinder that connects with the warning module. Good luck.

Re: 1987 mercury 175 black max

thanks for the help, but after four hours of testing everything i ran across the kill switch or the mercury switch, i called it something else! that was the cause of my problem. it can cause the same problem as the stater or trigger but before you buy a stater or a trigger if you have an older motor check the kill switch (mercury switch) also. you are right a little knowledge can be dangerous. thanks again captain whaley
