I need help with a 1987 suzuki DT140.The lower cylinder has started getting water in it.The other 3 are dry as a bone.I am unsure where to look for the problem.I am very mechanicly inclined and am very familiar with automotive engines but am unsure on marine engines specificly 2 strokes.Any help in pointing me in the direction to look would be most helpful.is this a common problem?
Tjk

Either a head gasket has gone south on that cylinder, or more likely an exhaust gasket under the exhaust cover sprung a leak (large plate on the side of the block)..

Snapperbait, thank you for your reply. My initial thought was a head gasket.I did not know about the possibility of the exhaust gasket?? Is there any way to rule out one from the other? Would a compression ck be the best place to start to identify which one? Or is there a better test? Thanks again and any additional help to diagnose which of the two gasket possibilities would be very much appreciated.
Sincerely thanks
TJK
