Once I have the lower leg off, I would like to send water up through the water jet using a garden hose to see if I can get water to come out of the pee hole in the lower cowl. Does anyone know if this will work or are there valves in the way of the water circulation?

any help is appreciated. Thanks.

yes it's called a thermostat.

But I thought that water is supposed to come out of the pee hole as soon as the engine is running and the thermostat does not restrict this. So all I would be doing is replacing the impeller with a garden hose. If this is true, what does the thermostat do?
