1988, 15 HP Johnson Poor Running

My 15 HP Johnson will only run with the choke engaged at least half way. There is no power and will die when put in gear. What should I be looking for?

Howdy, Boomer. Fuel starvation. Start at your tank vent. Clogged? Forgot to open it?<br /><br />Fuel pick-up clogged? No air leaks in fuel lines? Primer bulb get hard when you pump it up? Does it stay hard as you run?<br /><br />Disconnect fuel line at carb. When engine turns over does fuel spurt? If not overhaul your fuel pump.<br /><br />Finally, if none of the above find the trouble, clean your carb. Make sure you get all of the tiny passages clean.<br /><br />Good luck.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB
