I bought this motor from a mechanic this past march. However it has never really run right. (And the jerk won't call me back) Half the cylinders don't always fire, or so it seems, after the motor runs for 10 minutes, the other half of the motor will start to kick in a bit and after awhile it will be fine, no problem. It will run fine all day. But the next morning It will be back down to 3 cylinders. It is the Starboard side that continually acts up. After checking the plugs, they are pretty black and wet, the ones on the port side are always fine. I bought a new power pack for that side and am going to switch the 2 on the motor before I hook the new one up just in case I want to return it. I will also inspect the stator and check the voltage just to make sure that it isn't causing it. Can anything else be causing this problem besides a CDI box? I thought when they go bad, they just die, not this intermittent bull#$%^. Also, when it is running well (or so I think) I am only hitting about 5400 RPMS WOT + tilt (49 MPH)on a 18 foot Fiberglass fish and ski with a 14.5 x 19 aluminum prop. I thought for sure that a 19 pitch prop would get me up to or over 6000 RPMS. Maybe I am not getting full power even when I think I am. It is hard to tell with the plugs because of the intermittent problems. Any ideas on this topic would be appreciated.

Welcome!!!!
Check shift switch
St'bd side about 2/3 back near shift arm
Simply disconnect
This switch cuts out 3 cyls to make it easier coming out of gear.
Good luck

This motor doesn't have a shift switch, I was hoping it did but no dice. I looked all over for it and then asked a dealer mechanic, they said it did not have one until later years.

Sorry, wasn't sure.
If it has one powerpack, they are easily checked with a peak reading volt meter. If it has two, you can swap em to see if it follows the pack.
Good luck
