Hello everyone. I have an 1988 2.5 that stop working when i was out on the water. I think it over heated, stalled and could not pull the cord. Is it worth fixing? It was a little choppy that day and prop came out of the water a few times. I'm not a handy when it comes to rebuilding it. Any replys are welcome. Thanks

Try turning the flywheel by hand. If stuck, it'll need to be ripped down and rebuilt. If it turns, add 2 cycle oil in the plug hole, hopefully it smooths out, and do a compression test. If not good compression, you may have burnt a head gasket.

Well It turns by hand. Don't know why it stoped. Just got in the new impeller will change that and the gear oil at the prop and check compression. Hoply I didn't ruin the little guy. Thanks kbait.

Can anyone tell me if I should change the ratio that is labled on my 1988 Evinrude 2.5 hp as 100:1. Seem every thing that I'v read says to used a 50:1 ratio?

Use the 50:1, for better lubrication. OMC put out a service bulletin that instructed mechanics to change the decal and inform the owner of the motor of the new oil mix ratio. That service bulletin came out in the late 80's I believe.
