OK I have a 1988 225 vro the fuel pump is getting weak on it. I premix my gas so I don't need the oilig side of the pump. Can I put the old style pump on there instead of that expensive vro pump????
The VRO pump is easy to take apart for inspection and repair.-----Some would disagree on that fact.----So take it apart first before spending any $$ on a fix.
Options:
A - rebuild factory VRO system. Run separate oil and separate gas tanks.
B - replace factory VRO with 2 x vacuum pumps. re: See Part number 8402-2 + 8402-60 within http://www.maxrules.com/fixomcvro.html Then, use 50:1 premix.
For my OMC 115, I disconnected factory VRO pump and use 50:1 mix. Mixing isn't a big deal. Will soon replace VRO with 1 x 0438559. For your 225 engine, you'll need 2 x 0438559 pumps -> which is near the same cost of rebuilding factory VRO system. Your call...
I notice some cracking on one part today that why i was wonder if there was a cheaper fix I'm pretty sure its the original pump had the engien about 15 years and have never had to touch the fuel pump
