1988 3.0 mercruiser, stalls when given gas

Engine idles nicely, but as soon as you give her gas, she dies. But, if you flutter the throttle, she will continue to run, just not when accellerated. Have changed the accellerater pump. Any other ideas? Next week I am planning on buying a rebuild kit for the carb, but if this is a waste of time, I'd rather not. Bought this carb last year as a rebuilt. Thank you for your time.

Hi Lucy<br /><br />My '00 merc does the same but only when it's being powered up for the first time. Flutter the trottle and give it to her again and she's fine. I'd love to know why it does that though.<br /><br />Best of luck<br /> Donie

If you have the 2 piece carb...its most likely that the bottom plate is warped. Quite common.<br /><br />TMD

hello i had same problem while back i changed the gas lines and then it was fine when you apply trottle the pressure may collapes the inner parts of the gas line and starve the engine ??????
