1988 30hp Evinrude coughs and sputters

Hello I have a 1988 30 hp Evinrude , it starts 2 or 3 pulls ,idle's a little rough ,but it runs, when i accelerate sometime's it clears off, then sometimes it dose not it coughs and sputters at 1/2 to full throttle i have replaced the plugs ,and running fresh fuel. any idea's what would cause that? Try pulling out the primer if possible while running and see if adding that extra fuel makes it run bettter.Give the carb. a good cleaning if you hadn't done that.Check open air spark gap for 7/16 spark.Whats compression numbers?

Sounds offhand like rich running. Above advice is good, though. If running rich, priming it should stall.

Thank you Newyota and oldboat1 for the advice the plugs are set at 30 thousand with feller gauge ,i just ordered a service manual for this motor,my dad bought a new 125 hp. evinrude i;m thinking it was 1972 ,allways wanted buy a new evinrude motor for my self ,and found out evinrude stop making outboards june of 2020,so i;m going to hang on to it
