I Have a fault on my 35hp. it is backfiring through the exhaust , wont rev up but runs badly on tick over.did all the usual , clean carb, new plugs new HT leads , new woodruf key
checked timing using light and found that top cylinder is firing approx 90 deg Before TDC
bottom cylinder is approx 5 Deg BTDC
how can i fix this?

Re: 1988 35hp

thanx for the info , but , i was hoping you could tell me how to adjust the timing?
on a car you would turn the distributor but on the J35 i cant seem to figure out how to change the timing settings?
is there a screw or a plate that moves?
i can see how the advance works it changes the sensor position relative to the flywheel.but i just can figure out how you would move individual timing per cylinder
