This is my father-in-laws motor not sure how dirty the carbs were as I arrived after he had cleaned them. I feel sure that all passages were blown clean. I am not sure about the linkage you are talking about. I think it has the primer I remember seeing the red lever any suggestions would be appreciated. In the mean time I will try to get him to join this forum.

Re: 1988 40 hp johnson wont idle

Hi, i'm the father-in-law..i installed a new fuel pump, replaced all fuel lines, soaked the carbs for three hours, blew out all passages, with high pressure air line..new spark plugs, new gas,new fuel line bulb on the fuel tank line..once you get it in gear, and give it the gas it runs fine. can you adjust the idle on the carbs? i ran the idle adjustment screw on the throttle lever.but this doesn't seam to make any difference..it doesn't touch the stop anyway.....I'm lost any and all HELP will be appreciated..thanks oldpop43
