Hello All,

I own a 1988 bayliner with 50HP Foprce on it, since I get this boat I keep trying to keep it running at good performance with no success. What happens is that on the barrel it soind great or at least the rpm's seems to be ok. But when in water it just has no power or advance, it looks like it stays in on speed and at full throttle is the same.

I will appreciate all of you experience feedabck or recommendations.

Have a good day...

Running in a barrel is no way to do anything but make sure it starts.
Basics:compression/spark,then the fuel system.Check the carbs for water and dirt then rebuild the fuel pump.

make sure your exhaust isnt blowing into the prop. if so it will cavitate and only move a couple miles an hour

Not quite sure what you said , but check for a spun hub.

my 85hp did the same thing as yours you might want to check your spark. I found out that one of my cds were bad after changing it, I got full power

Hello, I did try what you suggest and I get the samething, I do the decarb with sea foam and get some carbon our of the exhaust. What I notice now is related with what mauiboy detects. Looks like is running only with on full piston, and the upper one has intermitent spark or alck of power. What I did is keep it at idle and disconnet the upper coil and it keeps running but you can notice the lack of power, when I do the same on the lower coil or piston it just turn off.

I check the electrical connections and some of the termianlo where damage, also the rectifier has a broken pin. i change the coild to identify if there were damage but I got the same result. What do you suggest for testing the piston, or what do I need to replace in order to have the piston running.

Thanks so much for you help...

Terminal connections corrode and break. First thing you should do is cut the old connectors off and replace with new ones..then pull off the ignition bracket and check for loose or disconnected wires from the cd's to the coils.

You do a compression test? After that get a GOOD spark checker. Then start with a diagnosing the stator. Get a FACTORY manual. The othere don't have enough info to do it right.J
