I'm brand new to the world of boating and especially outboards. I picked up a boat on a trailer with a motor that wasn't running for a good price and quickly discovered it was just the fuel pump unplugged that stopped it from running. Anyways I can get it to fire up and running at a nice idle but after talking with some more engine savvy people I have been advised to change the gear oil and water pump.
I have the water pump kit already and after watching a few videos online I'm up for the challenge. What I can't find is how much and what type of gear oil to use. I bought the pump and I know to fill from the bottom drain up to the vent.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Go to Walley World and buy two bottles of lower unit gear oil and as you say pump it from the bottom hole until it runs out of the top hole; then you have enough in it. I assume you know NOT to mess with the Phillips head screw. Good luck with water pump
