I have a 1988 70hp evinrude that has had the vro system disconnected for at least 10 years and never had a problem but suddenly the beep ,beep, beep of the low oil alarm started going off. The oil tank has always been and is still half full of really old oil and it's never done this before. Did the previous owner miss something when they disconnected the system and it finally showed it's annoying little head? The vro pump oil line is capped off and the brown wire going down to the tank is disconnected. Do I need to remove more of the wiring?

Re: 1988 70hp Evinrude low oil alarm

Bump. I have the same question on my '92 90 that has been removed from the damaged hull it was on. Oil inlet is capped, have been running 50:1 since I acquired it (I disconnected from the built in tank before I even tried starting it). Ran fine, but I had to disconnect the oil line in order to remove the engine, and have capped the oil line as directed. Planning on using 50:1 permanently, so the question remains: "Just cap the brown wire?"

My problem has been intermittent but I ended up unplugging the 3 wire plug that goes to the oil pump and the motor still starts and runs and it didn't have any alarms going off yesterday when I ran it. Hopefully this doesn't mess up anything else.

Yjfun, you answered your own question by disconnecting the three wire plug.
