Motor runs strong, always seems to start ok when cold. After starting and stoping several times, it becomes unstartable. I have disconnect fuel line at the carb to test fuel pump, it is pumping gas into carbs. I suspect that the choke valve is sticking, or that I have a float sticking. Spark is good, as I said motor runs strong. Where is the choke valve? How can I check it. It has three carbs, do they all need to be checked? Any tips on what to try first would be appreciated...Thanks

The CHOKE SOLENOID is located to the port side of the top carb. Try manually pressing the button and have someone start the engine to check it. Also push your key in, in the on position and see if the solenoid clicks. Look at this picture web page Item #1 is the solenoid.

Thanks, I'll try it out. A mechanic also suggested that the stator might be bad. It sparks when cold, but after the boat runs a while, it gets hot and stops working. I plan on spark testing tonight after starting it until it doesn't start anymore. If it is the stator...I will probably trade for new motor...can't see investing $600 in an 1988 motor.

You dont have to put that one on. CDI makes a aftermarket stator for about 150.00 I just put one on the same engine as yours two weeks ago.
